LINX Programme

The LINX programme is a group work programme delivered over 10-12 weeks to small single sex groups by two trained facilitators, often frorm different agencies and organisations that work with young people.  The Hampton Trust (authors Chantal Hughes and Debbie Willis)   created the LINX programme in response to issues raised by Wessex Youth Offending Team and The Hampton Trust, where research had shown a high correlation between those that had experienced domestic violence and been involved in criminal activity.

The programme  is designed for groups because that is where we can really see how they behave together and it works by  building empathy in young people that express little for themselves or others. Its main aim is to reduce violent behaviour and tackle issues around abuse, healthy relationships, equality, peer pressure and anger management. The programme is based on fun activities, requiring little or no literacy that act as a tool to bring about discussion that help young people see that there are different ways of doing things. The facilitators have a manual that takes them through week by week and they are supported and supervised by the County Co-ordinator. The programme and its positive impact on young people is evaluated so its effect can be measured.

A successful pilot of LINX has meant that the Big Lottery is funding the programme and its expansion across Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Glouchestershire and Devon over the next three years.
